José María Cusí’s specialist areas are international tax law, corporate restructuring, property taxation, transfer pricing and large holdings.
Born in 1971, he studied Law at the Abat Oliva-CEU University in Barcelona, and has a Master’s degree in Company Law from Abat Oliva-CEU and in Tax Management and Consultancy from ESADE. His career began in February 1996 in Cuatrecasas, working in their offices in Barcelona, Rotterdam and New York. In September 2002 he joined Clifford Chance as Tax Area Manager in Barcelona, where he stayed until September 2008, when he moved to Bird & Bird as Senior European Counsel, becoming a partner in 2010. In September 2012, he joined Amat y Vidal-Quadras as a partner, setting up and developing their Tax Department. Three years later he started his own firm, CHR Legal with María Jesús Hernández and Juan Roda. He is the author of Taxation of Holding Companies in Spain, published by IBFD, as well as a number of articles in specialist Spanish and international publications. José María Cusí has taught on the Master’s Degree in Tax Management and Consultancy and at ESADE, has been an IESE Alumni speaker and Executive Master’s Degree Lecturer of International Tax Law at the Centro de Estudios Garrigues. He is a member of the Barcelona Bar Association, as well as the International Fiscal Association, the International Bar Association, the Spanish Association of Directors (AED) and the Spanish Association of Financial Law (AEDF). He is listed as a recommended lawyer in Chambers Global, Chambers Europe and Best Lawyers.
