Member of the Paris and Brussels Bars, Jean-Marie SALVA is a partner at DS Avocats and has developed an extensive expertise in Customs and International Trade Law.
He is alumni of the French National Customs School (34th Session- 1981), HEC Executive MEA (ex-CPA, 1992), US International visitors program (1995), as well as ICC arbitrator and Vice-Chair of the ICC Customs Committee.
From 1981 to 1988 Jean-Marie SALVA worked as a civil servant for the legal team of French customs directory.
From 1998 to 2001, he managed a French trade association: the French Federation of International Trade Companies in Mechanics and Electronics.
As Partner at DS Avocats, Jean-Marie SALVA founded and coordinates the firm’s Customs and Trade Team, and the firm’s European Union Team on EU trade sanctions and trade defense policy aspects.
He has more than 35 years of experience with national (French customs and treasury administration and judicial authorities), European (European Commission) and international organizations (WTO, WCO).

Jean-Marie SALVA works in close collaboration with the members of the Customs & Trade team of DS based in Europe, Canada, Asia (China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia), South America and Africa and with many departments within the firm, especially with those dealing with Intellectual Property law (counterfeiting), Environmental Law (Energy and Environmental Taxation, TGAP, TICPE, TICGN), and Tax Law (VAT and transfer pricing).
DS portfolio of Customs & Trade clients encompasses French and International global companies as well as internationally active SMEs in various sectors (cosmetics, aeronautics, aerospace, defense, pharmaceuticals, mass retail, electronics, new technologies, chemicals, energy, commodities, etc.).
Besides his activities as lawyer, Jean-Marie SALVA teaches International Trade law at Panthéon-Assas Paris II University, one of the top law schools in France.
He is actively involved in the International chamber of Commerce, ICC, notably through his position as Chair of the French Customs Committee and Vice-Chair of the ICC Customs Committee. The Customs Committee’s purpose is to promote simplified customs and transport policies and procedures as well as other measures to facilitate international trade.
As Vice-Chair of the ICC Customs Committee, he leads the ICC delegation before the Technical Committee on Customs Valuation (TCCV) established under the auspices of the World Customs Organization (WCO) with a view to ensuring, at technical level, uniformity in interpretation and application of the Agreement on Implementation of Article VII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 (also known as WTO Customs Valuation Agreement).
Jean-Marie SALVA is also Vice-Chair for Europe of the International Federation of Authorized Economic Operators (IFAEO).
