Education

Emmanuel studied civil law at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated in 2006 with a Second Class Upper. He also attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and graduated with a Second Class Upper and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007. 

Emmanuel is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants, Nigeria. He is currently a LLM Student of International Business Law at University of Liverpool. He is a practicing Nigerian Legal Practitioner with vast international business advisory experience.

Biography

Emmanuel joined Strachan Partners, a leading commercial law firm in Nigeria in September 2009. In October 2011, he moved from Lagos to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, to establish and manage the Abuja practice of the firm. In 2014, he joined other partners to establish Fred-Young & Evans LP, a full service commercial law firm and Fred-Young Recoveries, an international debt collection firm.

Emmanuel is experienced in recovery of diverse debts across borders. He has been engaged in prominent commercial litigations at the High and appellate courts and has acted as counsel in both domestic and international commercial arbitrations. He is involved in several public interest litigations like the suit by some Federal law makers in Nigeria against the Federal Government on the constitutionality of the Excess Crude Account and the suit to compel the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation to promulgate an Order to bring the Foreign Judgments Reciprocal Act, 1990 into operation. He has also commenced an action against the Federal Government for interpretation of the accompaniments and what constitutes the Right to Life under the Nigerian Constitution. 

Emmanuel has represented trade unions in labour related disputes and has negotiated Collective Agreements on behalf of Employers of labour. He is exposed to Nigeria’s corporate and intellectual property practice and advises both foreign and local clients on foreign investments, due diligence, business formation and corporate governance.  He is Company Secretary to some renowned construction and oil serving firms.

He is listed as a foreign associate with James Ling Attorney at Law, China. He is the sole commercial litigation expert Global law Experts, Leaders in Law and Advisory Excellence. Emmanuel has authored several scholarly articles on alternative dispute resolution and arbitration, company law and practice, labour and employment law, debt collection and insolvency, enforcement of local and foreign judgments and arbitral awards, telecommunication, real estate and construction in international journals and platforms including Mondaq, Getting the Deal Through, Lexology, Corporate LiveWire, Virtual RoundTable, Finance Monthly, Financial Worldwide, Start-up Overseas.

Emmanuel’s recent books are “Impact of Nigeria’s Legislations and Business Practices on Foreign Investments” available on www.morebooks.com. He also wrote as a specialist contributor on the topic “Enforcement of Arbitral Awards and Foreign Judgments in Nigeria” to the book “Contemporary Issues in Law and Society: Legal Essays in Tribute to the Hon. Justice Chinwe E. Iyizoba JCA” of the Court of Appeal.
