Blank Rome is annually recognized as a leader by both Chambers USA and U.S. News & World Report. Our Employment and Labor practitioners have experience in every aspect of law which confronts in-house employment counsel and human resource managers. We provide clients with legal advice, counseling, representation in litigation, and training in all aspects of employment, benefits and labor law. We view ourselves as a business partner and trusted counselor to our clients and believe it is our responsibility to understand our clients’ businesses, their needs, and their priorities, so that we may provide creative and practical advice and counsel.

When the pandemic first hit, much of our work revolved around assisting clients with difficult decisions such as reductions in force, furloughs, and ensuring compliance with federal and state WARN laws. Now, we are largely assisting clients with developing return-to-work strategies, new workplace safety protocols, and implementing labor-related cost-saving initiatives.

We expect to see a significant increase in coronavirus-related employment litigation, covering a range of issues including wage and hour, leave laws, workplace safety, and disability discrimination. In fact, lawsuits have already been filed alleging violation of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which requires all employers with fewer than 500 employees to provide paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave for specific reasons related to COVID-19.

We place an emphasis on preventive measures to preempt problems before they arise and regularly provide in-house training programs to clients to ensure they are aware of their obligations and requirements of the myriad federal, state, and local laws.
